 2016 Preview 


       Washington County completed the 2015 season with a 10-3 record. Last year Washington County captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Washington County lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Elba team by a score of 20-14.

       Over the past two seasons the Bulldogs have gone 23-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Washington County has gone a combined 67-15. Their 82.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Washington County has managed to compile a record of 186-106. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 2A and 67th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 1999.

       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Al Earnest who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 10-3 record in his first season at Washington County. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Earnest.

       Coach Earnest's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 10-3 (76.9%).

       The Washington County Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region one during the 2016 season.

       The Bulldogs enter the 2016 season having won 16 straight region games.

       While most teams rebuild during the off season, Washington County has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Bulldogs have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2004 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

      Austin Kinsey returns for his junior season after rushing for 1,957 yards as a sophomore last year.

      The defense will be led by senior Michael Anderson who registered 118 tackles last season.

       The Bulldogs open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Millry on Thursday, August 25 at A.D. Britton Field. Last year the Millry Wildcats finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 1A region one. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Billingsley by a score of 53-28.

       Washington County and Millry have met a total of 87 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 59-24-4 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2015 with Washington County winning by a score of 54-13.

       Washington County returns 2A All-State Junior running back Austin Kinsey. He was named to the first team last season. The Bulldogs also return Senior linebacker Michael Anderson. He was named to the honorable mention team.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Parrish scored a record 77 points in a playoff game against Cedar Bluff in 2001. The Tornados were shutout the following week 19-0 by Courtland.
